If heat is so bad for your hair, how do you dry and straighten/smooth it?

I'm being told by many to nix the heat on my hair, as that's probably contributing to the damage. However, when I let my hair air dry it gets very frizzy and "poofy" is all I can think to say. I know it's terrible but with how humid it is where I live, my hair takes forever to dry naturally and if I don't run the curling iron through it after I blowdry it (I use the med/warm setting, not high/hot) it's not smooth and curled under. How can I get good results without the heat? Thanks!

try cool air, like cool setting on the dryer or a fan. and buy a nice anti-frizzing serum.

use a heat protectant for your hair, there's tons of them.... the best I have used is by KMS ....it never leaves my hair frizzy. I promise!

It damages your ends. All you have to do is use moisturizing conditioner in order for the heat not to damage your ends. Plus, you have to maintenance your hair and trim the ends every 4 weeks.

Yes it does style your hair but it damages the hair tissues then

sooner or later it starts to break. It even gets slowly damaged

from dying it.

Wash %26amp; condition your hair everytime you wash it.

Use an anti friz product before you blow dry or air dry.

I bought a newer hair dryer. One that uses IONS. Makes my hair smooth %26amp; soft.

I also bought a Flat Iron.

hi there, i am a hairdresser and i have used many products when i worked at my mothers salon for yrs.if you have natural curly hair, like me,what i do for starters is after washing my hair and put in a conditioner(not creme rinse) i leave just a little in after rinsing it. then i put in a leave in conditioner, like infusium(not the drugstore one,the salon one-drugstore one is called infusium23 in a white bottle with brown or blue print, salon infusium is in a white bottle with a fushia coloured print) use a soft mousse rather than gel when setting your hair. and to avoid fizzy when blowdrying, use a defuser, its a end peice that goes on your dryer and it has a bunch of pen like shaped ends on it.

use a roller set (heated up curlers) to give a soft curl and using heat once in awhile wont damage the hair too much, but if you do it every day the ends will dry and break. dont wash your hair ever day either.to keep the natural oils in your hair.

and one more step you could take to avoid using a lot of heat is get a hair straightener treatment in a salon.which is basically a perm put in your hair without perm rods.i wouldnt recommend doing this procedure more than 2 times a yr.several months apart. or again it will dry and break off.

there is also a brush available its got a blue end,blk handle and when you blow dry using this rounded brush the blue part warms up and allows your hair to have a curl without a lot of heat or curling iron.

hope this helps some

Deep condition your hair on a pretty regular basis to help with damage. As for frizzyness, there's tons of anti-frizz serums that you can run through your hair while it's still damp. A medium to low setting on a blow dryer with the angled tips can help with straightening as well as a ceramic or ion straightener that will leave your hair feeling silky smooth.

Ok, lets get this straight- heat is not bad for the hair. I live in a humid client and i know how you feel. I'm also a hairdresser and I know how to deal with it. You can use as much heat as you want as long as you protect the hair before you do it. I recommend Chi keratin mist or silk infusion (dime size) before you blow dry and then spray chi 44 iron guard all over the hair before you apply a flat iron or curling iron to it. If you dont want frizzies, use a humidity resistant hairspray after and lightly mist the hair. Redken has a good one. Good Luck.
