How can I "un-poof" and smooth/defrizz my hair after I blow dry it?

After I dry it my hairs on the top whole layer seems to poof out and not in a good way. It looks frizzy rather than smooth. Not sure if I should use a gel, cream or spray in my hair afterwards or maybe I need a better shampoo/conditioner set.

My favorite shampoo/conditioner is Control Freak by Tigi. It really helps with the frizz...but not as much as a high quality straightener (like a Chi). If you get the right kind of straightener, you can skip the blow drying process. If your hair is curly, use a curl enhancer and a dab of Frizz Ease.

Try a blow-dry leave-in conditioner, and when you blow dry, use a brush to hold the hair out smooth as you dry it. My daughter has thick hair that's just a bit bushy, and when she used this method it turned out looking like "Pantene" hair! I was amazed.

Really what i do is kind of play with it for a few minutes, just run your hands through it without any chemicals it seems to calm my hair a lil, and If you still are unhappy you can try a straightener, it smooths, defrizzes and straightens.

If you have a perm or relaxer you just put some mousse on it but if you don't under the comb then dryer you go but I use Africa's Best

Do you use a flat iron? Defrizz or a leave in conditioner? When I am drying and straightening my hair I do it the night before, seems to take overnight for the hair follicles to "shrink".

John Frieda's anti frizz serum is awesome, always voted the best by mags like Glamour, Marie Claire etc. But you need to smooch it on to yout hair while its wert, then blowdry.
