How to tackle with a dry and dull hair?

i have a very dry and dull hair. i have tried a lot of conditioners (shouldn't i??) and protein shampoo..but no good improvement..it continues to look dry all the time i am fed up.. my hair is curly but... it's beauty is gone when it is dry and dull... friends just tell me what i can do???
