Choose a hair stylist experienced in curly/dry hair.

Have your hair stylist help you choose a hairstyle that is easy to maintain--preferably one that just requires a wet-and-go approach.

Once you have your favored style, visit your stylist at least 4 times a year to trim split ends.

Don't let your hair stylist use a razor to layer your hair (although layering is good.) Razors contribute to split ends.

Don't wash hair every day. This kind of hair needs the natural oils from your scalp to reduce frizz.

To upkeep your desired style, just wet hair with some conditioner on non-washing days (rinse thoroughly).

Avoid using hairdryers unless necessary. Blowdrying hair dries it out. If you must use a hair dryer than make sure you use a diffuser.

Believe it or not, grease, mousses and gels make caring for this kind of hair harder!! Chemical build-ups require more washing than is healthy.

If you must use products, use high-quality, health-food store or salon products that leave little residue.

Do not brush, unless you want a 'fro.

redken has a product called align...it reduces frizz and works great to mix w/ other redken products. like their straightening balm....john frieda frizz-ease serum works well too....buy shampoo/conditioner aimed towards your hair symptoms....

try using pure coconut oil. Put it on in the shower before you shampoo. Also research "curly gurls." It will help you alot.

First step get a fresh cut. Getting rid of dead ends works wonders. No product can eliminate split ends.

I use their Phytodefrissant straightening balm for blow drying - there is no product like it, it is award winning.

For curls I like Devacurl anGeLL - a smoothing alcohol- free gel that works wonders for my curls. ( I bought it in a beauty chain store called "ricky's") Aloe vera gel (non-medicated), the same stuff you would use on sunburned skin also smooths the hair cuticle.

Be sure to stay away from any and all products containing alcohol (most of the items in the drugstore do!) as they will further dry out your hair. Infusium-23 leave in conditioner is a must! Deep condition with a hair masque at least once a week - Hot-oil treatments work wonders. FYI... It is better to spend a little more on a product that works than spend the same amount trying dozens that don't. Good luck taming that mane!
